Fellow Educator-
America’s children are falling through the cracks. Due to legislation, budget cuts, an economic downturn, and much much more, not all children in America are capable of believing the American Dream. There are many children who are now third and even fourth generation welfare. Children whose parents are no longer in the picture or are so wrapped up in their own personal misery that their children are no longer a priority.
And there are those children whose parents work hard. Who work long hours for multiple jobs, just to make ends meet. But even now, those ends are becoming more and more elusive, and children are finding themselves homeless and hungry.
These children must not be tossed to the side. They cannot be disregarded. These children cannot be forgotten. They have been by everyone else. For who wants to air out their dirty laundry? Who wants to admit that something is wrong?
I am a novice in the world of education. I will be a student teacher. I am known to improvise.
But most of all:
I will reach these children.
This is a call to arms to all of my fellow soldiers in the world of education. Join me in helping the children of your community. Help them learn to read so that they may be able to pass the driver’s written exam. Help them learn basic math without relying upon a calculator. Help them know their country, the states within, and why they are lucky to be in the Land of the Free.
Help them, if only to have a warm meal in their tummies, and an ease that comes with the ability to fall asleep in a comfy bed at night.
Let them be proud and excited to go to school, perhaps the only stable environment they have. Encourage them to grow. Inspire them to learn. Teach them to have a sense of pride again.
